5 Tips on How to Make the Most of Your Session

Have you ever wondered if there is anything you can do to make the most of your sessions? For example, is there anything that can be done during the session to make it fit your needs or to help the effects of a massage last longer? If you have ever pondered these questions or others similar to them, below are five tips that can answer them and help make the most of your experience.

1) Arrive a few minutes early to your session – this will give you time to settle in and ease into your session, which will in turn help you in the relaxation process.

2) Be vocal – before the session begins, use this time to share what has been physically ailing you and what needs attention during the session. During the session, if the pressure is too much or not enough, vocalize that. I may know what your muscles need to release but I do not know how it feels to you. After the session, feel free to ask questions on what took place during the session or what you can do post session to help prevent tension from arising again.

3) Breathe – Breathing immediately brings you out of your head and into your body. If there is an area being worked during the session that feels super tight, breath into the area with a deep inhale and imagine tension being released with your exhale. This can help the muscle tissue let go because you are letting go at the same time with your breath.

4) Drink H2O – Drinking water has many wonderful benefits. Here a few examples: water helps rehydrate muscles that were tense at the beginning of the session and now released, it flushes out unwanted toxins and helps prevent muscle cramping and spasms.

5) Rest and Practice Recommended Stretches – It’s best to rest 24-48 hours post treatment to give the body time to acclimate to the changes it experienced during the session. If any stretches were recommended to you after your session, keep these up! Stretching can help prevent muscle tissue from tensing up again and allow the muscles that surround the one your stretching to function properly.
